Contributing to a Section 42 Enquiry virtual training session 2024/25

This is a FULL one day course running from 9:30-16:30, your attendance is required for the whole day.

The Surrey Safeguarding Adults Board offers free training for all agencies in adult social care. However, we still pay trainers to deliver these courses and, there is a significant amount of time involved in making this offer possible.

So that we can continue to offer these courses free of charge, we must ensure that courses reach viable numbers.

Please make sure that you can commit to the booking you have made and inform us if you are no longer able to attend ASAP.
No shows and late cancellations maybe be liable for charges. Candidates can not be swapped, if you are no longer able to attend this session and have a colleague who can please contact the SSAB directly - each candidate muct be booked under their own name to attend.

Please note that this course does have a pre-requisite requirement of the Adult Safeguarding Essential course or equivalent, if you have any queries re. equivalent course/s please contact the SSAB who will be able to advise further.

Course Objectives

Course Audience:

Multi-Agency course open to anyone who would be asked to contribute to a section 42 enquiry (usually at a supervisory level)

Representatives from Borough and District councils, Registered Managers/ Deputy Managers (Care Homes/ Nursing Homes), GP’s, Acute Trusts and  Community Providers.

Course Attendance:

The course is limited to 18 candidates per session.

Pre-requisite:

Safeguarding Essentials (or equivalent)

Candidates would be expected to already know:

  • What safeguarding adults is,
  • Types of abuse,
  • When to make a safeguarding concern etc.

Aims & Objectives:

By the end of the course attendees will be able to:

  • Understand when S42 duties apply. 
  • Describe the objectives of an adult safeguarding enquiry.
  • Recognise how making safeguarding personal works in practice.
  • Understand the different roles within an adult safeguarding enquiry.
  • Begin to understand how and when it is appropriate to professionally challenge other agencies during an adult Safeguarding Enquiry.
  • Develop skills to write a good quality adult safeguarding report.
